The most common cause of common male baldness is on hormonal basis. The dihydrotestosterone (DHT), synthesized from testosterone,  acts on the follicles, causing the rate of growth to decrease and eventually stop it. This occurs only on certain hair follicles, which have a genetic predisposition to be stopped, usually located in the head of the head.
